Comparison of High-Performance Materials of TC4, TC6, and TC11 Titanium Alloys with High Temperature Resistance and Wear Resistance


The three most commonly used alloys in titanium alloys are TC4, TC6, and TC11, which are all materials with high specific strength, high temperature resistance, and oxidation resistance. Due to the different ways used by customers, it is necessary to explain and compare the different properties of these three materials in all aspects.


1. TC4 Titanium Alloy


Working temperature: -100-550℃, density: 4.51g/cm3 Room temperature mechanical properties (25℃): Tensile strength σb/MPa≥895, specified residual elongation stress σr0.2/MPa≥825, elongation δ5(%)≥10, cross-section shrinkageψ(%)≥25 High temperature mechanical properties (400℃) Tensile strength: σb/MPa≥620, lasting strength: σ100h/MPa≥570.


TC4 titanium alloy has a series of advantages such as excellent corrosion resistance, small density, high specific strength, good toughness and weldability. After the solid solution is strengthened, the strength does not increase much, and it reaches 1100Mpa. In the annealed state, the strength is generally 900Mpa.;

2. TC6 Titanium Alloy


Working temperature: 300℃, density: 4.51g/cm3 Room temperature mechanical properties (25℃) Tensile strength σb/MPa≥980, specified residual elongation stress σr0.2/MPa≥840, elongation δ5(%)≥10, cross-section shrinkageψ(%)≥25 High temperature mechanical properties (400℃) Tensile strength: σb/MPa≥735, lasting strength: σ100h/MPa≥665 Superiority: Below 300℃/5000h It has good organizational and performance stability, and its high temperature properties such as instantaneous tensile, creep, and long-lasting at different temperatures are comparable to that of double annealing and isothermal annealing.


TC6 titanium alloy Semi-finished products of TC6 titanium alloy treated with ordinary annealing can meet the requirements of the operating temperature (below 300℃) of aircraft structural parts.

3. TC11 Titanium Alloy


Working temperature: 500℃, density: 4.51g/cm3 Room temperature mechanical properties (25℃) Tensile strength: σb/MPa>1030, specified residual elongation stress σr0.2/MPa≥900, elongation δ5(%)≥10, cross-section shrinkageψ(%)≥30 High temperature mechanical properties (500℃) Tensile strength: σb/MPa>685, lasting strength: σ100h/MPa≥640


Comparison of wear resistance: TC4 and TC11 alloys have poor wear resistance at 25℃, while they have very excellent wear resistance at 600℃.


It can be seen from the above that TC4 does not have the high temperature resistance of TC6 and TC11. The highest strength is TC11, and of course the wear resistance is better.
