Chinese Researchers Have Developed A High Fatigue Resistance 3D Printing Titanium Alloy

It was learned from the Institute of Metals of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that researchers from the Institute recently prepared a 3D printed titanium alloy material with high fatigue resistance. In the future, this material is expected to play a role in the aerospace field. The results were published in the international academic journal Nature on February 29, Beijing time.

It is understood that in the ideal state, the titanium alloy directly prepared by 3D printing technology should have natural ultra-high fatigue resistance, and the pores and other defects generated during the printing process will greatly reduce the fatigue resistance of the titanium alloy. In the high-temperature experiment of a certain titanium alloy material, researchers found that there is a valuable heat treatment process window that can suppress the appearance of pores. On this basis, a new process for step-by-step adjustment of defects and tissues was invented, and finally a titanium alloy material with almost no pores was prepared. In the cycle test of this material, the tensile-tensile fatigue strength of titanium alloy can be increased from 475 MPa in the original state to 978 MPa.
