Titanium and Titanium Alloy Powder

Titanium and titanium alloys are metal materials with high strength, low density, excellent corrosion resistance, and good biocompatibility. Their use in the aerospace, automotive, medical, and other industries has been increasing in recent years. Titanium and titanium alloy powder is an important material used to produce titanium and titanium alloy components. The production process of titanium and titanium alloy powder is commonly divided into two steps: pre-alloying and powder production.

Pre-alloying: The pre-alloying process is the first step of the production process, and it involves the mixing of the raw materials that make up the titanium or titanium alloy to create the required alloy composition. This is usually accomplished through melting and casting, or by mechanically blending and homogenizing the raw materials.

Powder production: After the pre-alloying process, the metallic alloy is converted into small particles of titanium or titanium alloy powder. This is done through a variety of processes including mechanical grinding, chemical vapor deposition, plasma spraying, or atomization.

Atomization: Atomization is the most widely used method for producing titanium and titanium alloy powder, and it involves the use of high-temperature water or gas to break the alloy into small particles. The atomization process can be further divided into three steps: melting, atomization, and solidification. The first step involves melting the alloy in a high-temperature furnace. The molten alloy is then sprayed into a chamber, where it is broken into small droplets by high-pressure gas or water. These droplets are then cooled and solidified into small particles of titanium or titanium alloy powder.

The resulting powder is then collected and further processed to remove impurities, homogenize the particle size, and modify the surface properties. The powder is then ready for use in the production of titanium and titanium alloy components.
