Types and Applications Of Titanium Alloys For Marine Engineering


1. Low-Strength Titanium Alloy (Yield Strength Below 490MPa)

1.1 Ti31

A new type of high-temperature, corrosion-resistant and hydrogen-brittle titanium alloy developed by Northwest Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals. It can be used in a high temperature environment of 300-400℃, and it is easy to process into plates, rods, tubes and other products.

1.2 TA10

The near-α-type low-strength titanium alloy has good corrosion resistance and can replace the higher-cost Ti-0.2Pd alloy and be used in marine engineering equipment.

Application areas: offshore oil and gas and seawater desalination fields, such as plate-a tube heat exchangers, pipelines, condensers, valves, etc.

2. Medium-Strength Titanium Alloy (Yield Strength Between 490-790MPa)

2.1 Ti70

Near-α-type titanium alloy has good corrosion resistance, strong sound permeability, non-magnetic, and good cold forming processability and weldability. The alloy has excellent mechanical properties, the tensile strength of the sheet is greater than 700MPa, and the elongation is greater than 20%.

2.2 TA17

Near-α-type titanium alloy has excellent welding properties, resistance to seawater corrosion, and high static strength and cyclic load strength.

Application areas: diversion shroud, submarine shell, four-way water polo valve, etc.

3. High-Strength Titanium Alloy (Yield Strength Above 790MPa)

3.1 TC4(Ti-6Al-4V, Ti Grade 5)

At present, it is the most commonly used high-strength titanium alloy in marine engineering equipment.

3.2 TC4 ELI(Ti-6Al-4V ELI, Ti Grade 5 ELI, Ti Grade 23)

The fatigue crack-spreading resistance of the alloy is better than that of TC4 titanium alloy with isometric organization.

3.3 Ti80

The 875MPa grade α+β titanium alloy developed by Shanghai Institute of Steel Research has excellent properties such as high strength, high toughness and good corrosion resistance.

Application areas: Preparation of pressure-resistant structural parts such as drill pipes, submersible ball shells, fasteners, etc.
